Brantford Celebrates CA$97M in Gambling Revenue

As a casino host community in Ontario, the City of Brantford has now received over CA$97 million in gaming revenue from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation. Via the current, Municipality Contribution Agreement, the city receives quarterly gambling allocations from OLG for hosting Elements Casino Brantford, formerly known as OLG Casino Brantford.

Proceeds from OLG’s casino operations are shared with its host communities via the Municipality Contribution Agreement. Payments are based on a formula consistently applied across all casinos through a graduated scale of gaming revenue at each hosted site. Since 1994, host communities have collected more than CA$2 billion in non-tax gaming revenue.

Celebrating Major Gaming Milestone

After reaching an impressive CA$97 million in casino revenue, the city recently hosted an event at the Brantford Civic Centre auditorium to celebrate the significant impact of OLG’s proceeds on the community. Since 2001, the city has put the casino funds through annual contributions to non-profit organizations, administered via the Brant Community Foundation.

Kathleen Devine, OLG’s senior manager of municipal relations, shared that 100% of the Crown’s profits are reinvested into the province to support provincial priorities. Meanwhile, Mayor Kevin Davis said the city recognizes the strong relationship with OLG, which continues to exceed expectations as a corporate citizen and generous contributor to the local community.

Over the years, projects funded by the city feature recent renovations to the civic centre, physician recruitment, Canada Day events, contributions to public arts and cultural programming, mental health and wellness support, as well as expansion of the Brantford Public Library, Farmers Market renovations, and aid to the Downtown Revitalization project.

The recent celebrations coincided with the city receiving its latest quarterly payment from OLG for hosting one of its casinos. For Q2 of the fiscal year of April 1, 2023, through March 31, 2024, the city received CA$1.39 million. Since the start of the fiscal period, the city has now obtained over CA$2.77 million with more on the way.

Ontario Municipalities Receive Their Q2 Share

Other municipalities across Ontario also received their Q2 payments for hosting a gaming location. The City of Niagara Falls, which hosts Fallsview Casino Resort and Casino Niagara got a total payment for the quarter of CA$5,387,008. Since the start of the current fiscal year on April 1, 2023, the city has received an allocation of just over CA$11.7 million.

Meanwhile, the City of Windsor, home to Caesars Windsor Casino Resort, also received a hefty casino allocation from the Crown corporation. In Q2, the casino earned a payment of CA$2.3 million for the city. For the current FY, the city has already received over CA$5.7 million which will fund local programs and services.
